Teachers’ Day

A sudden low early morning call woke me up. Not known to be a lark for a long time, I reluctantly rubbed my eyes, and lifted the phone. The call was from one of my students to wish me on Teachers’ Day.

It brought tears in my eyes when she said that I had brightened their world. No, the truth was just the other way round. Being with them brightened my world. They were the important part of my story. I discovered a new way of life from their innocence and curiosity.

How nice of her having thought of me. I felt elated, humbled and proud, all at the same time.

Now that I am away from these kids owing to the coronavirus pandemic, I miss them a lot. I miss my classes, I miss days and days of rehearsals, cooking food together and eating together, I miss Kho-Kho, Tug-of-War, I miss tons of laughter and joys and gossiping…..and I miss my teaching too….

May my kids grow to become good human beings! May their humble family background not become a hurdle in their pursuing studies particularly the girl students! I know how much I had to fight with the parents to send their daughters for tuition.

Love

Lucky
